ABOUT GREEN AFRICA FOUNDATION

Green Africa Foundation
WHO WE ARE

Green Africa Foundation is an independent, mission-driven organization committed to long-term environmental stewardship, community well-being, applied knowledge, and standards development. The Foundation draws on decades of experience and proven impact, carrying this responsibility forward for present and future generations.

Founded in Kenya in 2000, we serve as a trusted platform where partners turn vision, policy, resources, and innovation into measurable and verifiable results through practical, hands-on, community-driven projects aimed at greening the African continent.

It is articulated through the Green Africa village concept where communities undertake activities that result in sustainable environmental conservation and natural resource management, assurance of food security, policy dialogue and advocacy, and social integration through peacebuilding, ethical and moral probity.

A Green Africa

~ Our Vision

To empower communities with innovative models for sustainable Natural Resource Management

~ Our Mission

THE THREE MEANINGS OF GREEN

When we discuss Green, we refer to three interconnected meanings that shape the Africa we aim for - linked ideas that together form a way of life rooted in values, wellbeing, and stewardship:

FIRST GREEN: KINDNESS

Kindness is demonstrated through core values and life skills. Strong communities begin with character. By providing life skills training, we foster responsibility, empathy, integrity, and ethical leadership, enabling individuals and communities to live with dignity, purpose, and mutual respect.

SECOND GREEN: SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOODS

Sustainable livelihoods rely on good health and peace within communities. We strive for communities that are healthy in body and mind, peaceful in relationships, and economically resilient. An Africa where livelihoods support families, strengthen social harmony, and endure without compromising the future.

THIRD GREEN: ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION

A deep and active commitment to protect, restore, and care for the natural world. Caring for land, water, forests, and biodiversity is a shared responsibility vital for both present and future generations. This is the actual environmental conservation.

OUR IMPACT LEGACY

900+ MILLION
Trees Planted, Restored & Cared For

Over more than thirty years of leadership, the Foundation has supported planting, restoring, and caring for over 900 million trees through community-driven efforts, ecosystem renewal programs, and partnerships with institutions. This impact spans landscapes and communities, improving climate resilience, biodiversity, and sustainable incomes.

Comprehensive community platforms acting as living labs for climate adaptation, food systems, nature-based enterprises, good health, peacebuilding, and inclusive livelihoods.

Plant Your Age

A global behavioral stewardship initiative that encourages individuals to mark each year of life with a tangible act of environmental responsibility, integrating lifelong climate action into culture.

Green Institute of Pragmatic Knowledge

A practical learning and research platform that links universities, research institutions, practitioners, and policymakers through hands-on knowledge development and application.

STANDARDS LEADERSHIP

Green Africa Foundation oversees Green Africa Standards, a comprehensive framework that defines quality, sustainability, and accountability in development.

One of the initial applied standards in this framework is the Green Africa Building Standards, which promote climate-conscious, resource-efficient, and respectful construction.

The framework is designed to expand, enabling the development of future applied standards in agriculture, energy, water, mobility, and other sectors.

GOVERNANCE AND PARTNERSHIPS

Governance & Assurance

Green Africa Foundation operates under an independent stewardship governance model with clear oversight, ethical safeguards, and a strong commitment to monitoring, evaluation, learning, and verification. Integrity, accountability, and partner confidence are fundamental to all programs and collaborations.

Partnerships & Collaboration

The Foundation collaborates with governments, corporations, development finance institutions, foundations, faith-based organizations, universities, communities, and mission-aligned institutions to turn innovation and resources into lasting impact, all while maintaining independence and neutrality.

OUR SERVICE AVENUES

To achieve our mission, Green Africa Foundation uses three service avenues which are the key components of any African community and their effects are immeasurable:

LEARNING INSTITUTIONS

Are central knowledge hubs in their neighbourhoods. They range from Green primary and secondary schools, Green tertiary colleges, Green universities. Green Africa Foundation collaborates with these institutions, all over Africa, to help achieve her vision of a "Green Africa."

RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS

These are significant actors in the development discourse since they capture and impact on large number of people in a particular locality. Green Africa Foundation works with Churches, Mosques, and Temples in realising her mission.

MUSIC AND SPORTS

Music and sports helps us find our unique social niche, bringing us together with other folks that share similar interests. It documents the history of social and cultural changes in society, and is always in a state of perpetual evolution, combining new ideas with older ones to create a sound that is unique to each generation. It is therefore a good avenue for passing information to a large population and over a length of time.

UNIVERSITIES AND RESEARCH PARTNERSHIPS

The Foundation partners with universities, research institutions, and think tanks as a practical platform for applied research, long-term studies, pilot programs, and knowledge exchange. Green Africa Villages serve as demonstration and research sites, while the Green Institute of Pragmatic Knowledge encourages shared learning, fellowships, and institutional collaboration.

OUR STEWARDSHIP COMMITMENT

Green Africa Foundation is positioned to continue as a leading continental institution for leadership, standards, and transformative impact for the next fifty to one hundred years.

We invite partners to work with us for future generations.
