Green Africa Foundation to turn a Girls School into a Green Africa Village

Rongai, Nakuru County, November 10 2014: Green Africa Foundation has promised to turn AIC Morop Girls Secondary School, in Rongai Sub-county of Nakuru County into a self-sustaining Green Africa Village through demonstrative training.
In his speech which was read on his behalf by Mr. Nicholas Okeya, the organization's chairman and founder, Dr. Isaac Kalua, said it was his organization's primary objective to turn all institutions of learning into self-sustaining units by providing the necessary skills in farm management and environmental conservation. "Our organization has developed a curriculum that we intend to roll out jointly with the Ministry of Education that will be part of the education system, so that all school going children are equipped early enough with skills on "green color jobs", Dr. Kalua said.
Dr. Kalua's speech was read at the weekend during tree planting and award giving day at AIC Morop Girls Secondary School, an occasion which was graced by the Executive Committee Member (ECM) in-charge of Environment, Natural Resources, Energy and Water in the Nakuru County Government, Mr. Richard Rop. He was accompanied by the area Member of County Assembly, Mr. Symon Moleisic.
The guests were welcomed at the school by the Principal, Mrs. Eunice Toroitich. The event was organized by the Rongai Green Schools Initiative, led by Mr. Richard Cheboi. Four primary schools and two secondary schools including AIC Morop Girls were awarded with trophies for registering 95% of tree survival account of all the trees they planted in the last rainy season. Out of the total tree seedlings planted last season, Green Africa Foundation jointly with one of its key partners, Cooper K Brands Ltd, donated 20,000.
"Our focus is to work with the county governments to achieve the much need food security, improved livelihoods, enhanced social and economic status of the many households that are seriously affected by the climate change,'' Dr. Kalua promised.
In his address, ECM, Mr. Rop said his county government of Nakuru was happy to be associated with organizations like Green Africa Foundation that are more result oriented. "We want to work with organizations that are more practical in their approach to issues that affect the lives of our people," Mr. Rop told the gathering soon after leading the planting of 2,000 tree seedlings in the school compound.
School’s Principal, Mrs. Toroitich thanked both the Green Africa Foundation, the Nakuru County Government and the Rongai Green Schools Initiative for choosing her school to be the site of this year’s event, saying it was a well deserved Christmas gift for the students and the entire school management.
The area MCA, Mr. Moleisic promised that next, he would slaughter a bull for all the form four students who will score A’s and B’s in the KCSE exams.
